Exhibits: Current & Upcoming
Cripple Creek: the world’s greatest gold field
Opening: September 5th, 2019
The Real Story of Cripple Creek
Western Museum of Mining Industry will unveil its next changing exhibit on Thursday, September 5th, 2019, in the museum’s Changing Exhibits Gallery. At 7:00 pm, two speakers from the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company (owned by Newmont Goldcorp) will discuss the company’s current mining operations and present information about ongoing historic preservation efforts.
The exhibit will provide a brief overview of the history of the Cripple Creek Mining District, examine the consolidation process during which three major companies acquired most of the smaller mines, provide material about the railroads that served the district, briefly address the water issues that plagued the deeper mines, and survey the processing mills. Material on mines and mining companies (both successes and failures), the current mining in the district, and the leasing process, all will be included. Specimens of gold ore from museums and private collections will illustrate the gold taken from the district.
This exhibit runs through Saturday, December 7th, 2019. Be sure to stop by and learn more about “America’s Greatest Gold Camp.” Regular museum admission applies.
