Virtual Reality Operations of a Model Beam Engine

Model, operable beam engine, constructed by Irving E. August., 1995.14.3. These early steam engines were known as "walking beam engines" due to the motion they made.

About Virtual Reality Operation:
If you have the Quicktime plug-in, then the Quicktime logo will appear above while the file loads (265 kbs, apx. 45 seconds at 56k). You can download the plug-in for free here and interact with the model engine.

Directions for Virtual Reality Operations:
Click and drag left or right to operate the model engine. Position your cursor over the vertical edge of the image until an arrow appears, then drag away from the image. This will operate the engine continuously and change speed.

Use the '+' and '-' buttons to zoom in and out. Select the arrow icon to move the image within your field of view, then deselect the arrow icon to operate the model
