The Western Museum of Mining and Industry’s Holiday Festival and Winter Break with the Burros!

December 26th, 27th and 28th

Looking for some Winter Break fun away from the house, the presents and the endless Holiday duties? Well, come to the Western Museum of Mining and Industry for some classic Holiday fun! No cooking, cleaning or presents required! 

On December 26th, 27th and 28th WMMI will be celebrating the Holiday season with fun, crafts and hands-on learning opportunities for the whole family! Kids and parents alike can make Christmas ornaments, New Year’s Eve party favors, meet the museum’s burro mascots, see miniature trains and old fashioned toys, learn about science and engineering with Bricks-4-Kidz, go gold mining, watch steam engines and enjoy some stress free family time!

Activities will include -

Book Signing:

On Saturday December 28th ONLY, children's author Lyn Bezek will be at WMMI for a book signing! Meet 'Daisy the Cripple Creek Donkey' author Lyn Bezek and get your copy of her great children's book signed! 'Daisy the Cripple Creek Donkey' will be part of the Burro Buddy Club adoption packet, available to all new Burro Club members who join at the $20.00 level! Cookie Mining:

What? Did you say “Cookie Mining?” Become part owner of an imaginary mining company! Participants will receive an introduction to the dynamics of team building by making decisions on resource quality, job responsibilities, tool purchases, budgetary expenditures, environmental issues, and more. After forming a company, it's ready, set, go! Participants race other teams to mine chocolate chips from cookies. Everybody gets a chance (regardless of age)! Winter Break with the Burros:

Have you heard of reindeer games? You might consider this burro games! Take a break from Winter Break and visit the Mining Museum’s burros! Meet our mascots as you enjoy a break from the holidays! Then, come inside to warm up (we’ll buy you a cup of coffee or hot chocolate) and learn what games pioneer children played (marbles, jacks, pickup sticks, tag, and more)! Included with paid admission.  10:00 am and 1:00 pm!  


Bricks-4-Kidz programs provide an extraordinary atmosphere for students to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills.  We teach science, math, engineering, and technology skills and concepts while children have fun with LEGO(R) bricks!  All activities are designed to trigger  children’s lively imaginations!  We learn, we build, we play with LEGO(R) bricks!
